ODS refers to chemicals or compounds that contain chlorine or bromine atoms which can deplete the ozone layer in the Earth's stratosphere.
Think of ODS as tiny wrecking balls that can damage and weaken our planet's protective shield against harmful UV radiation.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs): CFCs are synthetic compounds made up of carbon, chlorine, and fluorine atoms that are known for their destructive impact on the ozone layer.
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs): Chemical compounds containing hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon atoms. HCFCs are less damaging to the ozone layer than CFCs but still contribute to its depletion.
Halons: Fire-extinguishing chemicals containing bromine atoms that also contribute to ozone depletion.
