Neoclassicism is a Western cultural movement in the decorative and visual arts, literature, theatre, music, and architecture that drew inspiration from the art and culture of classical antiquity.
Think of Neoclassicism as a "retro fashion trend". Just like how retro trends bring back styles from past decades, Neoclassicism brought back elements from ancient Greek and Roman art and culture.
Classical Antiquity: The period of cultural history between the 8th century BC and 6th century AD centered on the Mediterranean Sea which includes Greco-Roman world.
Romanticism: An artistic movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century; it was partly a reaction to neoclassicism but also represented a revolt against aristocratic social norms.
Jacques-Louis David: A French painter who is often considered as one of leaders of neoclassical movement. His works such as 'The Death of Marat' are iconic examples of this style.
