Petrograd is the name St. Petersburg used from 1914-1924. It was Russia's capital city and an important hub for both February and October revolutions during Russian Revolution.
St. Petersburg: Founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27 [O.S. 16] 1703, it served as capital of Russian Empire for more than two centuries before becoming Petrograd.
Leningrad: The name given to Petrograd from 1924 until its original name (St.Petersburg) was restored in 1991 following Soviet Union's collapse.
October Revolution: Second phase of Russian Revolution where Bolsheviks led by Lenin seized power; took place in November according to Gregorian calendar (October Julian).
