Space Race
Definition
The Space Race was a 20th-century competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States (US), for dominance in spaceflight capability.

Sputnik: This was the first artificial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit in 1957. It was a major victory for them in the Space Race.
Apollo Program: This was a series of American efforts to land humans on the Moon and bring them safely back to Earth. The Apollo missions were a significant win for America in the Space Race.
Laika: Laika was a Soviet space dog who became one of the first animals in space, and also sadly became one of the first animals to die there as well.
