Key Signature

Definition

A key signature is a set of sharps or flats placed at the beginning of a musical staff to indicate the key of a piece. It tells musicians which notes are altered throughout the piece.

Analogy

Think of a key signature as a musical "password" that unlocks the correct notes for a song. Just like how you need the right password to access certain information, musicians need the correct key signature to play the right notes in a piece.
