Biodiversity refers to the variety of life in a particular habitat or ecosystem. It includes the diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems.
Think of biodiversity as an enormous jigsaw puzzle. Each piece represents a different species that contributes to the overall picture (the ecosystem). If you start losing pieces (species), the picture becomes incomplete and less stable.
Species: A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding.
Ecosystem: A community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Habitat: The natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
