Grains are small, hard, dry seeds harvested for human or animal consumption. They include wheat, rice, corn, barley among others.
Think of grains as the base layer in a lasagna. Just like how most lasagnas start with a layer of pasta at the bottom; many diets around the world have grains as their staple food forming the base of their meals.
