The West Indies is a region of islands located between North and South America, surrounded by Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Think of West Indies as a necklace of islands draped around the neck of Americas. Each island is like a unique jewel with its own distinct color and shape.
Caribbean Sea: This is a sea located in the Western Hemisphere, bordered by Central and South America to the west and south, and by the Greater Antilles to the north.
Colonialism: This refers to control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people. Many West Indies islands were colonized by European powers.
Plantation Economy: This was an economic system which saw large-scale farming that specialized in cash crops carried out on plantations, often using slave labor. It was prevalent in West Indies during colonial times.
